PORTALS explores the body, nature, and heart as doorways into deeper dimensions of self and our inherent interrelatedness. Through movement, imagery, and original music, the film enters the liminal space between inner and outer worlds, where the body becomes a threshold into feeling, knowing, interbeing, and transformation. PORTALS traces two journeys from disconnection toward reconnection, inviting viewers to question the boundaries of self and explore the possibility that we are not separate from one another, from nature, or from the larger web of life.

Threshold (United States) by Jil Guyon

Threshold centers on an unnamed woman confined to a castle rooftop in southern Portugal. Filmed in black and white with a texture that feels unearthed, the work moves fluidly between temporal registers—past bleeding into present, the real colliding with the imagined, danger shading into performance. The protagonist becomes a modern Scheherazade, wielding seduction and cunning as survival tools. The viewer inhabits the position of both witness and accomplice, drawn into complicity by the act of watching. What unfolds is a choreography of emotional volatility and calculated gesture, each movement advancing a psychological duel that seeks catharsis through exposure and release.

Dowsing (United States) by Tim Feeney

Ten repetitive sonic interventions within the eroded landscapes of the Burren, County Clare, Ireland. These occur at sites of local “anti-monuments:” a kilometers-long, natural limestone pavement high above Galway Bay; stone farm walls and remnants of circular structures on hillsides; cairns near a shoreline; a field of glacial boulders interrupted by a road smashed from the surrounding stone formations, in forced public work by the starving during the Great Hunger of 1845 to 1852. These structures speak to both the passage of geologic time, and the care and efforts of human survival beginning in the Neolithic period and tended through the present, though local history at each site may be lost, or unrecorded.

The Last Day (Italy) by Michael Fantauzzi

A man who has long withdrawn from the world realizes that no sign of human presence reaches him anymore. He decides to seek the reason for this silence and discovers that the world is now deserted. After wandering for some time through this disorienting landscape, he begins to perceive unexpected manifestations—gradually becoming more and more evident—of a presence.

In the end, he comes face to face with another self, observing and being observed. This unfolds in a paroxysmal crescendo.
